We've been eating way too much ice cream over here (#quarantinelife), so we skipped eating it today and did an ice cream craft instead! We used homemade puff paint as a new texture, and they loved getting to sprinkle their creations!
Supplies
White glue
Shaving Cream
Paint
Paintbrush
Cup or paper plate for the paint
White cardstock
Cardboard
Box Cutter to cut the cardboard easily
Brown marker
Red pom poms
Rainbow rice for the sprinkles
To make the puff paint, mix glue, shaving cream, and paint together until you get a stiff consistency. The paint should have stiff peaks when you drag the paintbrush through it.
To make the rainbow rice, add a scoop of rice to a ziplock bag (I did a snack size ziplock because I didn't need very much of each color). Add a dash of vinegar and food coloring to the bag, zip it closed, and shake it until the color is all mixed. Spread out the rice on a paper plate to dry quickly or leave the bag open over night. Repeat for as many colors as you want.
Cut out a cone from your cardboard and use the brown marker to make your cardboard look like an ice cream cone. We glued the cone first onto the cardstock and then I let them paint. They loooved adding the sprinkles all over, and then we glued on the "cherry" on top (the red pom pom) as the final touch.
And just for fun, we listened to The Ice Cream Song by Super Simple Songs to add to the mood!
Here's how Aaron (3 years) and Olivia's (18 months) crafts turned out:
