This is such a cute way to teach your little one the letters in their name! It takes a bit of time, some recycled material, and hot glue, but it's so worth it! I didn't make one for Aaron because he's mastered the letters in his name, but he grabbed this immediately and had fun untangling the letters and putting them in order. He giggled as he tried out the letters in a different order and I pronounced what her name would sound like. It also turned out to be a great fine-motor skill practice as he had to figure out how to untangle the strings. I kept them short so it's a manageable challenge.
Of course, Olivia's first response right now is, "Pom pom!" (they're her favorite) and to try to pick off the sequins, but it'll be ready for her once she starts learning her letters.
Supplies:
cardboard
felt sheet (1 color for the background, 1 color for the flower)
hot glue gun
regular white glue
wooden letters (The Dollar Tree)
yarn or twine
pom pom
sequins
gold pipe cleaner
Directions:
Place the felt sheet on the cardboard and cut to match the size.
Cut a small hole through the felt & cardboard for the string to pass through. I cut just a slit through the felt and a larger hole through the cardboard.
Hot glue the wooden letters to one end of the string.
Lace the strings through the hole in the felt and then the hole in the cardboard.
Hot glue the felt to the cardboard.
Pull all of the strings together in the back and hot glue them down to the cardboard. Once it cools, cut the excess strings.
I cut out a heart and hot glued it over the end of the strings to cover it all up. Also, no one will pick at the hot glue keeping all of the strings in place.
Hot glue the pipe cleaner onto the middle of the cardboard.
Add your decorations using hot glue and regular white glue.
