In January I was in a serious rut when it came to picking meals for the week. My routine is to choose the week's meals on Sunday and put in a Walmart grocery order to pick up Monday morning. I think we've all been there... dreading picking out meals and wishing we could find something fresh! We want it to be easy but flavorful, and if possible, let it be healthy but something my toddler will still eat!
In January, we also decided to try eating vegan to see if that helped my overall health. Ever since giving birth to Olivia, my body has been pretty out of whack. I developed an egg and dairy intolerance out of the blue, and overall it felt like my body and food just don't get along. I'm also afraid that Olivia might have the same egg and dairy intolerance, even if it's a more mild version.
The thought of tackling a new way of eating sounded overwhelming. I didn't want to be searching online every weekend trying to find a few new scattered recipes.
That's when I remembered Mealime! Some of my close friends introduced it to me, and now I'm using it every week!
Here's the reasons why I'm hooked:
1. You can enter in ingredients that you don't want to cook with, whether it's a dislike for eggplant or a serious food allergy/intolerance.
2. You can follow a specific diet such as Low Carb, Keto, flexitarian, Paleo, Vegetarian, Pescetarian, or Vegan
3. You can set how many servings and easily change it if you're cooking for a larger group.
4. The recipes are clean and healthy! You know exactly what's going into it. If you have a very strict, clean diet, you can easily use these recipes and add your adjustments.
5. It connects to your online grocery order!!! I use Walmart Grocery Pick-Up, and the connection between the two apps has been so smooth! It takes about half the time to pick meals and shop now!
6. I feel like this app has taught me a lot about cooking itself! I'm much more confident in the kitchen, and if I'm ever cooking without a recipe, I know my way around my spices much better!
7. The recipes are SO good! Especially with our vegan recipes, we feel like we're eating out at a restaurant every night because the flavors are so rich. AND we're eating so many more vegetables and definitely expanding our palette.
When we first started eating vegan using these recipes, I'll admit that it was hard for my two toddlers to adjust. But I'm so glad that we did it because now I'm regularly hearing Aaron say things like:
"Is this kale? I really like kale!"
Or last night he said, "I don't need any more of the potatoes, but can I have more asparagus and edamame?"
So shocking! This is coming from the toddler who used to only want mac n' cheese and fruit.
So if you're in a meal rut like I was, try this out! I hope you enjoy as much as I do!
