DIY Pirate Spyglass

This little craft so simple and yet so magical! After all, what's a pirate without a spyglass? I kept this one simple so that Aaron could be involved in the process and be extra excited to use it! He chose his spyglass to be green (his favorite color... everything is slowly turning to green in our house, lol!), and I chose a gold look for Olivia's. His is made from a paper towel roll, and hers is made from two toilet paper rolls.

Supplies

  • Paper towel roll or toilet paper roll

  • Paint (mine are from Walmart)

  • Paintbrush

  • Glitter glue (mine came in a 3-pack from Dollar Tree)

  • 3 gold pipe cleaners

  • Hot glue gun

Aaron helped me paint the paper towel roll, and once it dried, he covered it with the gold glitter glue. He could be as wild and crazy as he wanted, which was so much fun, and then I smoothed it out and covered the whole surface with my finger. Once the glue was dry, I glued on the gold pipe cleaner using the hot glue.

To make Olivia's spyglass, I used two toilet paper rolls. It's extra fancy since it can extend and retract.

I cut one of the rolls lengthwise, overlaid the cardboard just slightly, and then taped it. It was just slightly smaller than the original tube so that it fits inside.
