DIY Pirate Ship Counting

I'm loving these recycling crafts! This pirate ship is so easy to make, and it makes for a perfect way to practice preschool skills! You can use it to sort types, count items, or match colors. I'm starting off by having Aaron count out pieces of treasure using my seashell printables. Click here to purchase them on Etsy or check out my other alphabet and number printables here!

Supplies

  • Egg carton

  • 1 sheet of black paper

  • White paper to make the skull

  • Skewer sticks

  • Seashell printable

Instructions:

  1. I cut my piece of black paper in half, and then I cut one of the halves again. That made for great proportions for three sails.

  2. I poked a hole on the top and bottom of each black paper with a knife. Then it was easy to slip the skewer stick through the paper.

  3. I put the three masts into my egg carton. My carton already had the holes, so was quick and easy.

  4. I wanted the flexibility to use this egg carton again, so to keep the masts standing up, I just smushed each skewer into a piece of play dough on the bottom, completely hidden by the egg carton.

  5. Depending on how you want it to look, you can just do one mast or all three. The masts do move around, so if your child is younger, you might want to stick with just one.

  6. Don't forget to glue on your skull and bones to make it the perfect pirate ship!
