These puppets have created the funniest moments this week with my kids! The way my kids stare at their faces as my husband and I make them talk, it was as if two real pirates walked into our house, haha! The pirate with the bandana is Pirate Sam, a happy-go-lucky pirate who thinks it's just fun to find sparkly things. Aaron keeps calling him "ma'am" instead of Sam as a joke, and both of my kids burst into laughter as Sam defends his real name and that he's a boy. The captain puppet is Captain Hook, a grumpy old pirate who's trying to get Aaron to reveal where his hidden treasure is. This craft was totally worth it!
Supplies:
Brown or white paper bags
White paint (if you're using a brown paper bag)
Skin tone paint
Paint brush
Googly eyes
Red, blue, and black construction paper
Binder Rings - I found mine at Target for $1.89
I used a white Crayola Paint Pen to draw the skull on the captain's hat and the polka dots on the bandana
Brown and red markers
Instructions:
First, paint the top of the bag the skin color that you want. I did two different shades, and if your bag is brown you could leave it that color. I chose to paint both. Put a paper towel down under the flap so that you don't accidentally paint the bottom part of the bag.
Next, paint the bottom of the bag white (unless you bought white paper bags).
Once the paint is dry, glue the stripes onto the bottom of the bag. I used white glue instead of a glue stick. I needed a stronger glue since I was gluing onto paint, not paper.
Glue on the hats, and then glue the eyes and use your markers to draw the nose, mouth, and stubble.
Last step, poke a hole in the bag for the earring. I used a knife. Then attach the earring, and your puppet is ready to go!
I hope your kids enjoy these pirate puppets as much as mine did!
