We made it to the end of the alphabet!! We definitely got behind schedule when Covid hit, but I'm glad that we pushed through and still got through all of his letters. This was a fun lesson to end on, and we're now building a zoo in my living room every day with stuffed animals. I'd say that's a success!

Pre-Writing Practice
I'm realizing just how important it is to first master horizontal, vertical, and slanted lines before tackling his letters. For some reason, it was extra hard for him to write the letter Z, but it really helped to first have the vocabulary so say, "Keep your first line horizontal, then stop your pencil and do a slanted line." It gave me the right words to help him fix his mistakes.
Number Recognition with Dice
I thought this one was so cute, and so easy to put together! Write in numbers 1-6 on the giraffe repeating each number at least twice. Have your little one roll the dice. They have to recognize (or count) the number on the dice (for example, the number 3), and then cover all of the number threes with a Cheerio. Repeat that until all of the numbers are covered.
Zookeeper Says - Gross-Motor Skills Game
I try to design his lessons with a mixture of sitting and active activities. This one got him out of his seat, challenged him to use his body, and it got his imagination going! I paired this activity with the video "Let's Go to the Zoo" by Super Simple Songs.
10 Frame Counting
I'm using the 10 frame right now to practice questions like, "What is 1 less than 9?" "What is 1 more than 9?" I start with a card that has a number of animals on it. He counts the animals on the card and then puts that many animals crackers onto his 10 frame. Then, the next card says, "One more than last time." I ask him, "What is one more than two?" We kept going, using all of the cards, and he could always use his 10 frame if he got stuck. We definitely used the 10 frame to "check" his answers, and he was really proud each time he checked under his animal cracker and found that he was right!
The Letter Z Craft
His last activity was making a handprint zebra! I love how he giggled as I brushed paint on his fingers, and for some reason he thought the stripes on the zebra were hilarious. It was a fun little craft to finish up the lesson.
