It's been a minute since we've done a letter lesson, but hopefully we'll be back on track! This week we practiced the letter "S," which included all things stars, suns, solar systems, and even sleeping under the stars!!
Tracing the Letter S with Stickers - I found these colored star stickers at The Dollar Tree! He did great practicing his fine motor skills placing the small stickers to follow along with the "S" shape.

Counting the Stars - This one is great for number and color recognition! I asked him what color the top, left star was and what the number was inside of the star. He then asked me for 3 yellow stickers and put the stickers wherever he chose on the star.

Alphabet Sun - Our next one was so fun! It was a whole alphabet review that included fine motor skill practice. I used a bowl (it's what I had on hand) but it works even better with a plate. Write the alphabet letters around the circle and also write one letter per clothespin. I mixed all of the letters up, and as Aaron grabbed each one, he had to identify the letter and pin it on the right spot on the sun. The more letters he added, the more it looked like a sun!
Scissors with Shooting Stars - Practicing cutting is one of the big preschool skills! I attached a star (cut out of cardboard and colored with a chalk marker) to the top of his scissors and told him that his star was ready to go shooting through the solar system (yes, I got as many "S" words in there as I could)! His job was to keep the star upright so that it could shoot across the sky. That helps him keep his scissors straight up and down to learn proper cutting technique. I cut out these strips of black paper and added the lines and star decor with my chalk marker.
Star Garland Painting & Lacing - Our last activity was painting these stars to create a garland. I had him count to see that there were 10 stars, and as we did this activity, I asked him a lot of questions like, "We've painted five stars. How many stars do we have left?" He absolutely loved the glitter part, and he did a great job lacing the stars onto the string. I ended up punching two holes in each star, so he laced the string through 20 holes total. I added the garland to his bed so that he can "sleep under the stars" every night!
Annnnd... speaking of sleeping under the stars, that's just what we did that evening. We set up our tent in the backyard, started a little bonfire, made s'mores, and slept outside! He was so giddy the whole time that he couldn't sit still for more than 30 seconds, running to the lantern turning it on and off, going in and out of the tent, and excitedly grabbing more s'mores fixings. It was SO special!
